“Summer breeze…makes me feel fine, blowing thru the exhaust of my mind…” or summink!
Well, Limedawgs & Limettes, your bunz should be well and truly baked in this most un-British heatwave. But…prepare for the (inevitable?) storms forecast ahead. But you know that after every storm there’s always the calm and sunshine that constitutes a Limehouse gig…
It’s been the usual gig-bliss out on the road – and we wouldn’t want it any other way. A storming gig at our old favourite the Robin in Bilston, complete with ‘Angel of Death’ sci-fi opening (how does he get his voice that low? Lucozade and beans??), just for a change. And then onto a stunning new venue for us, The Blue Lounge over at the Floral Pavilion in Wirral. Check it out if you can, they’re running a state of the art theatre over there, as well as a banging new live music auditorium. After the sad demise of Pacific Road, we feel we’ve found a new home…
A special mention must also go to the blockbusting Limehouse/Who’s Who outdoor show at Conkers Ampitheatre in Moira. All ravaged by mozzies, and singing ‘My Generation’ on the way home! Thanks to promoter Pete ‘the shirt’, and congratulations to him for a phenomenal 40 years promoting live music in the area. Had a great time listening to all those Who classics, and Pete telling us about the time he gave Black Sabbath one of their earliest gigs at his folk club…
And the grand finale? Well, there nearly wasn’t one on Saturday night at the Playhouse in Alnwick. Just finished sound check, then BANG! No…not a pre-gig ritual but a massive power cut across the whole of the street. Cue worried looks from all tech staff and management.
Whilst ‘the show must go on’, with no ‘leccy it wasn’t looking good, leaving theatre manager Jo feeling obliged to give a cutoff point of 8pm – no power by then, and the show was cancelled. And lo and behold, at 7.58pm a big cheer came from the bar area. We had power! And booze! Limehouse took to the stage with all the pizzaz, energy and aplomb (8 of em, actually) expected of a unit with a combined age of 385 and a riotous night was had by all – huzzah!
A NEW GIG just announced (especially for our Yorkshire ‘barmy army’) – we are coming to Warehouse 23 in Wakefield on 26th September. The heads-up on this is that it’s another cracking big-club venue, and hopefully a new home for us in this part of the world. C’mon Yorkshire, show us what ya got!
I AM THE MUSICMAN…
is a nice little blog about the work that was recently done on Wayne’s main bass. Already retweeted by Musicman distributors ‘Strings and Things’, the Bass Centre, and by the bass-meisters themselves Ernie Ball! Have a read, and see what this bass has been through over 20 years at the hands of a ham-fisted impersonator…
